KneeMD™ was born at the intersection of necessity and expertise
After a serious ski accident left designer and innovator Jake Hall with a severely damaged knee, he faced a long and painful road to recovery—marked by severely limited motion, chronic pain, and few effective tools to help him rehabilitate. As someone who had spent his career creating performance-driven products, Jake did what he knew best: he built a better solution.
He was extremely frustrated by his inability to effectively stretch his knee into full extension on his own—something critical for recovery, but nearly impossible without help. The traditional devices available were overly complex, uncomfortable, and simply ineffective.
Determined to find a better path forward, Jake partnered with his long-time physical therapist, Dr. Seth Kelson, DPT, to develop a simpler, more intuitive tool—one that put recovery into the hands of the patient. With nearly two decades of experience in outpatient sports medicine and rehabilitation, Seth played a key role in guiding the device from concept to clinical application.
The results were immediate. Using the device alongside surgical care, Jake was able to regain his lost range of motion—especially in extension, where so many patients struggle post-surgery. When he showed the device to his surgeon, the world-renowned Dr. Richard Steadman—a pioneer in orthopedic sports medicine and founder of The Steadman Clinic—the response was clear:
“Where did you get this? I need these for my patients!”
And with that, KneeMD (short for Knee Motion Device) was born.
Together, this trio—a world-class designer, a respected physical therapist, and one of the most influential orthopedic surgeons of all time—formed the foundation of KneeMD.
Over the following years, the team rigorously tested and refined the device across top sports medicine clinics, working with elite athletes, leading surgeons, and everyday patients. The feedback was overwhelming: KneeMD was making a real difference in people’s lives.
To validate these outcomes, a clinical trial was conducted in partnership with the orthopedic team at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The findings were significant—patients using KneeMD experienced substantial improvements in knee extension compared to the standard care group.
Today, KneeMD is trusted by patients, therapists, and clinics across the country.
It empowers individuals to take control of their recovery, safely restore motion, and return to the life they love—with confidence.
It all started with one problem, one patient, and three experts who believed knee motion recovery could be better.

Benefits Of KNEEMD
KneeMD is an easy-to-use device that allows patients to effectively stretch and passively rotate their knees on their own, without the assistance of a physical therapist.
KneeMD (an acronym for Knee Motion Device) is the first patient-controlled knee rehabilitation device that helps patients who have undergone total knee replacements or other major knee surgeries improve range of motion and stretch in extension.
